This costco premade salad is a healthful meal on its own, but I really like it as an addition to my meals. The quinoa salad - a delicious mix of red and white quinoa along with mung beans, red pepper, tomato and cilantro - is the perfect addition to a backyard BBQ salad. If you’ve got leftovers or pre-made bagged salads like Costco’s Kirkland Signature quinoa salad then you are way ahead of the game when it comes to pot luck salad boats. They make for a beautiful presentation and super easy cleanup which is always a win/win in my book! I use those whole lettuce leaves as bowls, or boats, for stuffings like tuna salad, ground turkey, chopped veggies and more. Or do like the package says and dip it or grill it. I love buying bags of whole romaine lettuce to chop up for smoothies and to toss into hot pasta that is simply dressed with toasted bread crumbs and Parmesean cheese (super fast dinner that everyone loves!). It’s a super lettuce to the max and can be used for way more than salad. Plus, it can boost your immune system and help keep skin, teeth and bones strong. According to a 2009 study in the The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, high folate (which is found in romaine lettuce) contributed to the reduction of wheezing and allergies in almost 40% of the people polled. People who consume it regularly also have a reduced rate of allergies or allergic reactions. According to the USDA, romaine lettuce is a great source of vitamin C and vitamin K. Romaine lettuce is rich in vitamins and minerals and very heart healthy. Romaine lettuce is super healthy, though, so you really should be eating it. There is nothing quite like the classic salad, but, when it’s nearly mid summer and you have had roughly 23 of them already, another one just isn’t going to do it. Delicious, low in calories and brimming with health.You see them every week in the grocery store, contemplate buying them, but have no idea what to do with them: bags of whole romaine lettuce. Supposedly, this lettuce was referenced in England in 1699 so it’s no newcomer. An entire cup of this delicious plant is only 10 calories. There are green and red versions but obviously I have the red one. Oak: this is the dark lettuce and adds an interesting color contrast to the traditional greens. I’ve been gorging myself on this delicious artisan lettuce and it’s still in great shape. It certainly seems to degrade more slowly than other lettuces. Sort of like “hack” – I think I’ll scream if I see that word anymore! Anyway, back on track … The word artisan refers to either a skilled craftsman or “ a person or company that makes a high-quality or distinctive product in small quantities, usually by hand or using traditional methods” which is what the term must mean in relationship to lettuce.Īs it refers to lettuce, here’s a definition I found that makes sense: “Actually, being that it’s (sic) leaves are not plucked from it’s roots/stem, and the lettuce stays in it’s (sic) natural cluster-like form (which is the “non-processed” part), it degrades in quality slower, not to mention stays fresh and retains it’s nutrients longer.” “Artisan” is a really popular word these days and you find it everywhere. Vitamin A, numerous B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium, manganese, iron, potassium, copper, phosphorous are just a few of the nutritional treasures found in lettuce. I love and adore lettuce and here were three varieties I’d never eaten before: I recently found a package of artisan lettuce in my grocery and couldn’t resist. ![]()
